Asbury Automotive Group Inc.'s $1.2 billion purchase of Jim Koons Automotive Cos. — one of the largest in auto retail history — gives Asbury a prime asset in a desirable new market and nearly half of the $6.9 billion in revenue from acquisitions it wants to add by 2025.
Koons generates more than $3 billion in revenue, according to Asbury, which called the group one of just 13 private dealership networks that broke the $3 billion revenue mark in 2022. The company's revenue per dealership is more than double the industry average, said Erin Kerrigan, an industry mergers and acquisitions expert whose Kerrigan Advisors consulting firm represented Koons in the transaction.
"There are very few groups that replicate the value that the Koons Automotive Groups represented," Kerrigan said.
